Abdominal pain is a frequent cause of consultation in emergency departments, its approach must be systematic and focused on the detection of a possible pathology that endangers the life of the patient or that requires surgery for its management. There are several paradigms regarding this pathology, one of them focuses on the patient’s care before the evaluation by the specialist doctor and the surgeon, certain measures can cause an alteration of the clinical picture and perhaps reveal the diagnosis and therefore the treatment final.
Many classic concepts, especially related to pain management and patient self-medication, have been discarded over time, although many of them still require more studies to define their real relationship with an unfavorable outcome.
The objective this time is to carry out an evidence-based review of current concepts and what should and should not be done with the patient with abdominal pain.
