Abstract:

This study aims to develop a measurement tool that can effectively and widely assess women’s menstrual poverty. The type of study is a methodological study so as to develop a menstrual poverty scale and evaluate its psychometric properties. The study sample was composed of420 women. Data were collected through the Menstrual Poverty Scale, and the scale itemswere shaped by literature reviews and expert opinions. The sample was divided into two parts: Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. It was developed byusing the scale development process in health and social research. The collected data were analyzedusingSPSS 23 andAMOS 23 programs.EFA showed a structure with 13 items and four factors. The four factors were: Access toHygieneProducts,QualityofLife,Embarrassment,ReceivingInformationandEducation about Menstruation. The item factor loadings ranged between 0.46 and 0.91. The total ofCronbach’s Alpha coefficient was found to be 0.69.Corrected Item-Total Correlations of the scaleitemsranged between 0.62 and 0.84.According to the analysis, the “Menstrual Poverty Scale” is a tool that can make validand reliable measurements. Conducting validity and reliability studies in different cultures by applying the scale to women in different cultures is recommended.
