Abstract

As a reflection on the management of Post-Partum Hemorrhage, and after 50 years of birth and delivery experience as an Obstetrician, originally from the UK, but most of my professional life in Canada, and having spent the last few years reviewing research, opinion papers, conferences, and personal networking, there seems to be the need for some more focus on what really matters in different environments for Post-Partum Hemorrhage or PPH. This project has been constructed to be a framework for education in managing PPH, QA review, and access to current data on the management. In the background is the EDC “Every drop counts”, and this is included in the delivery slide and its hyperlink. Can we do better?

The 6 Ds focus on the aspects that surround PPH. From the antecedent factors to the issues of a full-blown PPH, to recognize the problem early, and start treatment immediately. A standard program with easy access to all aspects of PPH would be very helpful.   The program could be accessed using a cloud-based environment during or after the event, so anyone with a receiving device, smartphone, tablet, or desktop would have the opportunity to use this program.

The 6 ds are:

  • Delivery
  • Drugs
  • Devices
  • Display
  • Documentation
  • Debriefing

A PowerPoint presentation can be provided for an extension of this approach to PPH
