Background:
Congenitalhypothyroidism(CH)isthemostcommon congenitalmetabolicdisorderseeninthenewborn(1 in 4,000 births)1. It causes irreversible mental and physicaldisabilityifremainsundetectedand/or untreated.
Objective:
Todetecttheincidenceofcongenitalhypothyroidismamongthenewborn at French medical institute for mothers and children.
Methodology:
All living newbornwho were delivered or admitted to FMIC between January2017 to December 2019.which is blood simple for TSH were send after 48h of live.
Results:
After discarding unsatisfactory samples, 1550 samples were assayed for TSH.Maletofemaleratiowas1.4:1.TSHabove10MIU/Lwere foundin35babies. Thus incidenceofcongenitalhypothyroidismwas1.7perthousandlivingnewbornamong the studiedcases.
